Google Search Is Getting Lame

So I was drawing a blank on James Lipton’s name yesterday. I could picture the guy. I could picture Will Farrell’s inspired Saturday Night Live scetch of him, just couldn’t draw out the name, and, as we’ve been conditioned, when in doubt you dip into the collective second brain.

Alas, a Google search didn’t help as you can see in this screenshot, which you’ll have to click for a full size rendering.

Google Search

Okay so maybe this exact phrasing isn’t in the wild but I gotta think someone, somewhere was thinking it, or has thought it at some point in their life. Maybe not quite in those words but similar enough that it should appear to me in a Google search. So I guess searching for what already exists is kinda lame and uninspiring. When do we get the search for contextual matches based on the intended semantic meaning.

For the record, I kinda like James Lipton. The search term I used may betray a lack of respect on my part, but it’s simply what cascaded out at the moment, and really, here I am in a pair of flip flops, a large, angry coffee stain on my ripped t-shirt, looking at Tim Buton’s Batmobile for sale on e-Bay one hour after noon, so any disrespect for the guy on my part would be ironic, or if that’s the wrong word, at the very least, you know, the jokes on me.1

  1. I’ll also point out I’m wearing shorts. So not just flip-flops and a t-shirt, but otherwise nude, which would be better in a way, but not the case at this moment. To further clarify, has never been the case, that I can recall.[]
