Helpful Advice for Pencil Users

Jessica Doyle, an artist whose drawings and honesty I’ve long admired, hands out an artist tip (#2 at this point). Jump the preceding link to find out what it is, but the advice appealed to me in a deeply primitive way. Burn it, or when in doubt set the fucking thing on fire. This would be good advice for any artist, along the lines of that old Eastern saying, “If it is empty, fill it. If it is full, empty it.”1

  1. I’m paraphrasing, but it’s something like that. It’s correct enough to get the point across.[]
