Look Ma, I’m on the Internets

I’m not sure exactly why, probably has something to do with the hermit in me, I’m quite content leaving our little ten acre plot as little as possible, but it always surprises me when people notice this place. Wether it be subscribing, or linking to it in some way, I always have the same moment of realization, like, “Oh yeah, I’m on the Internet.”

I mention this fact because I noticed Kyle Meyer critiqued this site’s design on his new site typesites. It’s a great site, and Kyle’s a fine chap with a keen eye whose opinions are backed by talent, and not watered down in bullshit. Something you’d know if you read his weblog, which I suggest you do. Per usual Kyle does a bang up job running down the positives and negatives, or challenges in the softer vernacular of Social Work, of this design. He’s pretty much spot on in his critique.

As far as design goes, I don’t really know what I’m doing, and change this site’s look more frequently than a porn star ejaculates. It’s all relative of course. I know more than my grandfather, but less than Kyle, for instance. However, I love to screw around with this site’s design, and figure a lack of knowledge or skill shouldn’t be an impediment to engaging in anything. A different story if you sell yourself as one of immense skill with a dangling price tag, but that’s not my game. This place exists more as additional avenue for me to write. Not so much as a showcase for designing acumen.

Fiddling with design is also a bit of a self soothing exercise for me. Some do crosswords, others knit, or walk in tight little geometric circles, which may be a disease actually. I fuck around with the underlying code that makes this place tick. If I was being brutally honest with myself, it’s a form of procrastination also. You know, “Jeeze, I really should be… seeing what happens when I rip this out here and make this hex number 003366 there.” Such is procrastination.

Anyway, if you’re dropping by via Kyle then feel free to submit your own opinions about this place. It makes me giggle with glee to hear other people’s opinions, positive, negative or indifferent, about something I’ve done. Chances are it’ll look a lot different in a week, procrastination, compulsion, whatever, but let fly with thoughts if you’ve got ‘em.
