The Skittlish Theme for Wordpress
I spent all day Saturday glued to the NCAA Basketball tournament but required something to fiddle with during the down times. So I dusted off an old theme I started porting to Wordpress long ago and finished a first version of it.

The theme is called Skittlish. It was created by Cristi Balan for Mephisto, a Ruby on Rails weblog publishing system. Cristi deserves the vast majority of credit and love for this theme. I simply threw some Wordpress guts into it. I was a bit unsure if it was kosher to port Skittlish as I couldn’t find a license for it, but after a couple of failed attempts to contact Cristi I went ahead and ported the sucker. Cristi is supportive of the effort.
Skittlish should work with Wordpress 2.0 and above.
Updated [April 14th. 2008]: I completed a pretty big refresh of Skittlish. Should work great with 2.5 now. Read through the stylesheet as I included a bunch of comments. Should be easier to read and tweak now. Let me know if/when you hit the bugs
Updated [June 9th. 2007]: I spent a few moments and validated the theme. It wasn’t much. It should validate now. Let me know otherwise. I also fixed the two versions at the same number. They’re pretty much identical except one has widgets and the other doesn’t.
Updated [May 22nd. 2007]: Mario sent in his latest version of widgets. We’ve taken the beta label off and will let Skittlish rest on 1.05 for now. Let us know if there’s any bugs.
Updated [May 13th, 2007]: Skittlish now has widgets because of the awesome Mario García. He put them into Skittlish. I really had nothing to do with it. For now we’ll slap beta on the Skittlish Widget version. Please let me, or Mario, know of any problems, or suggestions, in the comments, or by email. Again, much love to Mario. Why not drop by his site, and give him some love and thanks.
Updated [March 20th, 2007]:: Apparently this was a pretty easy one, thankfully, and was my oversight to begin with so my apologies to all. If a black background in IE appears when you use Skittlish then either re-download the updated zip file (version 1.02) or, probably much easier, open your Skittlish header.php and look at lines 12-14. There’s a IE conditional there and if you make the link path to the base_ie.css absolute (http://YOUR-SITE-URL/wp-content/themes/skittlish/base_ie.css) it will eradicate that nasty black hole eating your Skittlish theme.
Much love to Wendy @ Things in Your Head for pointing out the IE problem in the first place. Wendy’s a fine example of someone you want visiting your site. I would have never know this was an issue if not for her comment so a big thanks Wendy.
Updated [March 20th]: Thanks to a comment from Wendy it appears there is a problem with Skittlish Wordpress in IE. I was afraid of this. Since I do not have access to IE, total Mac-head, my ability to problem solve this is limited. Not to mention I’m no code Jedi to begin with so even if I did have IE I still might not solve the problem. If anyone has the same problem as Wendy and has a fix please speak up for the benefit of any current or future users of Skittlish. I’ll attempt to rummage around in the meantime for a fix.
Skittlish is a fun, candy colored theme with seven color options. In addition, it has options for fluid or fixed widths. It is hatom supported and I put in some styling for an OpenID login form. I used Christian Montoya’s great comment.php template for the comment section. It also supports the following plugins:
Ultimate Tag WarriorSupport for native WordPress tags now- Yet Another Related WordPress Plugin
GravatarsSupport for native WordPress gravatars now- Recent Comments
The above plugins do not have to be installed but their functions are supported. Though it’s probably obvious, I’ll still mention the fact that I had nothing to do with the creation of these plugins. All respect and credit should go to their respective authors.
Install Skittlish like any other Wordpress theme. It should work right out of the box. I didn’t do a thorough testing of it but did put Skittlish through some paces on the latest versions of Firefox, Safari, Flock, Camino, OmniWeb, and Opera. Seems to work fine in all these browsers. How it renders in Internet Explorer I have no idea. I’d imagine badly but this is just me being pessimistic. Could do fine.
I welcome any suggestions, comments or bug reports you may have. I’ll do my best to support this theme but, please, keep in mind I’m no Wordpress wizard and this is a first release. There’s also plenty of people who are more knowledgeable and experienced than me. Chances are you’re one of them. So feel free to chime in.
And remember this is really Cristi Balan’s baby. Thanking me for releasing a port of it is one thing but any kudos for the look and feel of the site should go to Cristi. Christi Balan is the star here, not me.

very nice theme!
thank you
March 20th 2007 - 3:38amGood job!
March 20th 2007 - 5:00amsparcjpe and nice -
Thank you for taking the time to comment and the nice words. As I mentioned in the post, the real star here is Cristi Balan.
If you end up using the theme please don’t hesitate to let me know of any bugs, gripes or suggestions.
March 20th 2007 - 5:55amGood work
I like this theme!
March 20th 2007 - 6:44amfryevhen - Thank you. I appreciate the comment. Cristi did a great job creating it. When I first stumbled upon Skittlish a few months ago I thought the Wordpress community would enjoy the opportunity to use the theme. Hope some folks take a liking to it.
March 20th 2007 - 8:09amVery nice job!
March 20th 2007 - 9:04amI love love love this theme - I use Firefox but unfortunately, many of my readers use IE and (as you noted previously) it does some funky things there - I wonder why (besides the obvious that IE sux
The white part of the body is rendered black so you cannot see the text. I wonder if it is a simple fix. Such a shame. This theme ROCKS!
March 20th 2007 - 1:38pmGood job, thx, good luck!
March 20th 2007 - 3:19pmNick D - much thanks for the nice comment.
Wendy - I really appreciate you pointing this IE bug out to me. I kinda had a feeling it might choke on it. I’m not sure why it’s doing that. Could be a transparency issue with a background picture. The problem is I’m totally Mac based so my ability to test this problem out is a bit limit. The other obvious limitation is me. Even if I could test it out I still might not be able to figure out the problem.
Nonetheless, I’ll give the code a good look to see if anything pops out at me. Meanwhile, if any experienced Wordpres users head down this way and think they might have a fix please don’t hesitate to chime in. I don’t feel a sense of ownership over this theme so all outside help is appreciated.
Shavkatov - thank you for the comment as well. Though I must add, in light of Wendy’s comment, good job - if you don’t care about IE.
March 20th 2007 - 7:08pmNo sweat! Glad to help - and you know, the minute you widgetize this, I am putting it up there (cannot do anything without my damn widgets lol)
Great theme!!!!
March 21st 2007 - 10:25amFixed option seems to have a problem on IE.
March 22nd 2007 - 8:38pmdelimiter- Appreciate the notice of that bug. I’ll take a look, try to see if anything looks out of order. Is the button just not doing anything or is it doing something, but doing it funky?
March 25th 2007 - 9:31amVery Cool Theme!! Im using a Mac and have tried every browser on it but cant get the options panel to work. Well when I say every browser I mean Flock and Safari…
Any thoughts? And what is this IE everyone else is on about?
March 30th 2007 - 4:29pm@Paul - The ‘IE’ refers to Internet Explorer though maybe you’re making a joke at Microsoft’s expense seeing as how you’re a Mac user, which makes you a man after my own heart being a dedicated one myself.
As for this bug, which keeps cropping up and tells me I’m screwing up the port somehow, first, you’ll want to make sure you didn’t upload the “Skittlish-Theme” folder you downloaded. You only want to upload the “skittlish” folder into your wordpress themes folder.
Assuming you did that, then the next thing I’d suggest you do is open up skittlish’s header.php file, go to line #11 I believe and enter in an absolute path over the link anchor that is already there. So it’d be “http://your-url/wp-content/themes/skittlish/javascripts/app.js”
After you’ve tried that and if it still doesn’t work then drop another comment here and we’ll look into it some more.
Thanks for the comment Paul. Much appreciated and let me know how it goes for you.
March 30th 2007 - 4:52pmgreat theme. Thanks! one provblem I’m experiencing is the color options won’t work in either IE or FF. Perhaps this is an installation issue on my part? Thanks in advance for any help.
March 31st 2007 - 9:48pm@Paul G: Sorry it’s not working right outta the box for you. Apparently a few other folks had this problem as well so you’re not alone. I’m having a troublesome time figuring out a singular cause for this options difficulty as it works on most installs but not some. For example, the options on the demo site are working for me on FF.
Take a look at my comment right above yours (#14) and try going through those options first. If it’s still not working after you’ve tried those approaches please drop me another comment, or email, and I’ll see if I can come up with another solution for you.
I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment about this Bill and, really, let me know if the above suggestions work for you. If not we’ll try something new. Cheers.
April 1st 2007 - 3:51amGreat theme. Twisted to my need. What I do not get is why for orange and green body color is changing ? any help.
April 4th 2007 - 12:51amHey Santanu - Happy to see you’re twisting it to your needs. I like to see folks take things and make it their own. As for why the orange and green body color is changing, I apologize, but I’m not quite sure I understand what you’re asking.
Changing the color options at the top are anchored by browser cookies so if you change the color to say purple then the next time you visit your site it’ll be purple. But if the colors are just randomly switching on you it sounds like some nasty gremlins are involved.
I apologize for not being able to give some direct advice. Would you mind giving me more specifics about the issue and I’ll see what I can do.
Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment. Much appreciated.
April 4th 2007 - 6:54amhey, great theme! I’m having the color changing issues as well (stays on orange no matter what). I even tried editing the header.php file….not luck. Any other suggestions would be great!!
April 5th 2007 - 11:01pmAwesome theme! Credit to you. Not many theme’s catch my eye, but this one has so much potential.
April 7th 2007 - 7:22amwould love to see this support widgets
April 10th 2007 - 2:56amthank you so much for this real nice theme! if i can i would to make you a suggest for a future step: the implementetion of a BLOCKQUOTE style. i use often blockqoute but in your theme it is not visible.
April 10th 2007 - 3:53ami think it’s necessary to edit the style.css file but i’m not able to do.
thank a lot!
@cj: I owe you an apology. I’m sorry it’s taken five days to respond to your comment. I typically try to approve comments and then respond to them right away. If I don’t I’ll forget and, well, they linger. I never like to wait for the author to respond myself so I’m sorry for the wait. As for the options not working try downloading the newest version and let me know if that helps. If not I’ll lurk through skittlish to see if anything pops out at me.
@armen: Thank you for the nice words. It’s much appreciated. If you get the chance drop by Cristi Balan’s site and give some thanks as well as that’s where the original theme comes from.
@jamie: I’ve had a few people request this also jamie and I agree widgets would a nice addition. I however will not be able to put them into Skittlish for a long time. For a couple reasons (1) I’m busy with Life and writing and (2) there doesn’t seem to be a very quick and easy method because of Skittlishes markup. I’m sure it could be done but it’d take some care and time. As I’ve said before if any enterprising person has the time or inclination please go ahead and put widgets in instead of waiting on me. I’d be happy to either link to your widgitized version or credit you accordingly, whatever works. And thanks for dropping in and taking the time to comment jamie. I appreciate it.
@enrico: Thanks for pointing this out to me. Blockquote styling is important and its absence in Skittlish is my fault, an oversight. I’ve put in some very basic styling for a blockquote so try downloading the new version (1.04) (you really only need the style.css file) and they should show up for you now. I appreciate you pointing this out. Very nice of you. If you’d like something a bit more fancy let me know and I could send something your way.
April 10th 2007 - 8:51amthank a lot! it would be super if blockquote will be a rectangular that change color in the same color fo the background of the theme. mmm tonight my english was too bad. i hope yuo’ll understand my thing.
April 10th 2007 - 4:46pmthanks!
April 11th 2007 - 7:18amexcellent theme)
@enrico: I think I follow you. You’d like to have the blockquote display a background the same color as whatever color option is choose? I agree that would be a nifty little feature. It’d probably require more skill than I have as you’d, I imagine, have to tweak the javascript and use a little photoshop. Suppose you could pick the html color of your default color option and use that as a background. Not as eloquent but it might work.
@limmenz: Thanks to you friend. Appreciate you stopping for a moment to say your peace. Enjoy the theme and tweak to your hearts content.
April 11th 2007 - 10:36amno i don’t want a background color rectangular but only a little frame of the same color of the theme background.
to understand i would you’ll see the blockquote style of vistered little theme on: http://themes.wordpress.net/testrun/?wptheme=701
thanks in advice for your great work!
April 11th 2007 - 1:33pmanyway also your idea of blockquote i think it would be great!
April 11th 2007 - 1:34pmenrico - Okay, think I get it. You just want the blockquote framed with a border. Unfortunately the Theme Viewer seems to be down at this moment but when it’s back up I’ll check out that link. If it is what I think it is then styling a frame in the default color wouldn’t be too hard, but, again, using it for each color option would require more javascript skill than I have. That stuff looks like gibberish to me.
Updated/Edited Much Later: Enrico I looked at the link you left me and get it now. I sent you an email with a style.css that includes blockquote styling similar to that theme. The blockquote border should change colors along with whatever color option is chosen. It was a matter of editing the css. Not too hard. Not sure why I was stuck on having to edit the javascript. Probably being a pessimist and javascript intimidates me so it clouds my vision. All I see is a drooling javascript monster waiting to eat my brains.
Let me know if it works out for you, if you try it at all. If anyone else would like this file then let me know. You can see what I mean by visiting the demo site. The blockquote border is not currently in Skittlish 1.04.
April 12th 2007 - 9:13ammmm more javascript, i’m not able in javascript so i don’t know the negative effects of much of it.
April 12th 2007 - 10:02amenrico - I’m not fluent in javascript for sure so if I go messing around with it all effects would be negative. I’ll check out the link and shoot you an email if you’d like that have a border around the blockquote. If not, then that’s cool too.
April 12th 2007 - 10:14amHello there..
Thanks for this amazing theme ! Believe it or not we have purchased some space on the web just to use this lovely theme ! Thank you very much !
One thing though, could you please make it widget compatibale ? this would make it even more amazing !
Thanks for the hard work you have put into this piece of art !
Cheers
April 13th 2007 - 6:09pmI cannot get rid of the “black hole.”
I have changed the header.php file and re-uploaded three times. Any suggestions? Thanks
April 17th 2007 - 11:10pm@Munther: Sorry for the delay here. I’ve been sick and neglecting this humble place as a result. Thank you for the very kind words. It’s nice to hear. Widgets maybe a long time in coming, because of my lethargy and other business, but I agree they’d make a fine addition to the theme.
@Susan: That stinks. No one enjoys a black hole. I’m about to skip off to work but nothing than the usual fixes come to mind off the bat. I’d recheck that you changed the header.php link correctly. I don’t intent to imply you haven’t but I’ve starred at a html link for twenty minutes before wondering why it doesn’t work before noticing it was some simple gaffe. When I get back from work I’ll check the zip file to see if something is amiss. Sorry for the inconvenience but thanks for pointing it out.
April 18th 2007 - 10:13amHi there!
Great theme!
I was wondering if there is any way to change the actual colors in the color options? Like, I’d like to change the pink to another specific shade of pink.
Would that be possible? If so, how would I go about doing that?
Thanks for sharing this theme. =)
April 19th 2007 - 8:51amOh! Never mind… I found the answer for myself… *hehe*
April 19th 2007 - 8:58amIt’d help if I looked harder for a little bit longer. =P
Eek. Sorry for all the comments. Would you happen to be able to share the psd file for the sidebar top? I just can’t get the shadow the same after I try to modify the colors. =(
April 19th 2007 - 9:08amBonita: nice to see you around these parts and you can fill the place with a million comments if you’d like :).
As for the psd, I do not have it, only the gifs, but I’ll assume Cristi does. I’m about to run out the door for work but when I get home tonight, around 8ish, I’ll shoot Cristi an email and see if I can get that psd for you. Actually might be nice to include them in the download huh? Up to Cristi though. I’ll let you know when I push that email out. Thanks for dropping by. Made me happy to see you drop in.
[edited later] Just an update Bonita; I emailed Cristi and will let you know the results when I get them.
April 19th 2007 - 9:42amOh! Thank you so much!
I appreciate the effort. I really like the theme. I really wanted to go with this one but then when I couldn’t get the shadows the same, I decided to go with the v2 kiwi theme. =)
Thanks for the personal email too. I’ll wait patiently.
=)
April 21st 2007 - 7:33amYou’re welcome Bonita. I think including the psd’s would be nice for those folks that can, and would like to, modify the theme but, as I said, it’s totally up to Cristi… That v2 kiwi theme is a nice one as well. I remember a time I used Derek P.’s v2 and enjoyed its open feeling, up until the point I tweaked it to an ugly, painful death.
I’ll email you once I get word from Cristi.
April 21st 2007 - 8:08amHi,
Thanks
April 21st 2007 - 12:54pmI really like this theme, and planned on using it in my own blog, until I realized it didn’t support the sidebar modules (or so my blog admin panel told me). Any chance you’ll get that one in too?
Oh, crap, just totally disregard my previous comment, I didn’t take the tame to read them all… I might try to make it happen someday, though
April 21st 2007 - 1:03pmamos thank a lot! it’s perfect!!!! :))
April 21st 2007 - 1:12pm@Felix: Glad you caught that Felix. You saved me from having to explain how lazy and inept I am again :). And please do make it happen. I’m kinda hoping that someone will and save me from it hanging out there. A few folks would love you for it too… Thanks for dropping in Felix.
@Enrico: Awesome Enrico. Glad it’s working for you. I kept it pretty much like the Vistered Little theme as it’s the one you pointed out to me, but the border’s really no trouble to change if you’d like something else… Stay well Enrico.
April 21st 2007 - 1:30pmhello again. is it possible to have the sidebar of less width like say 200px or so ? I tired with my best knowledge like modify
x_default_sidebar_top and x_orange_sidebar_bg but no luck ? what all i need to do ? I need these as I want to display some pictures where width is around 500px
-Cheers
April 25th 2007 - 2:43am@santum - i’d imagine you will need the original psd files to tweak the backgrounds. I’ve emailed Cristi about this. I’m still waiting on a response. Once I know more I’ll shoot you an email. Sorry, this isn’t the best answer as it doesn’t really solve your problem. Hopefully I’ll have a beter answer soon.
April 27th 2007 - 5:46amHi. I love this theme. I have tried to include widgets. I got it on other themes but in this theme i’m lost. It should include a functions.php to include it. I will spend some hours again. But tomorrow
May 1st 2007 - 8:31pmI’ve got it: Widgets
:D
May 1st 2007 - 9:23pmI’ve got it. The theme with widgets… i have sent it to the developer of this theme. Wait a few days
May 2nd 2007 - 6:21amYou can watch it in http://magarto.com/blog/
May 2nd 2007 - 6:22amHello tere,
Great theme. Thanks for porting it to wordpress.
Can you please let me know how can I ensure that only one color of my choice appears on the blog? Also, I’d like to fix the width of the layout without giving the option to the user to expand it. How do I get these two things done?
Am a bit conversant with bot PHP and CSS and have been using Word press for over a year. I think I can handle the changes if I have some instructions.
Would greatly appreciate your help.
Thanks a ton
May 5th 2007 - 6:00amAwesome looking theme, thank you.
May 5th 2007 - 8:07pmGreat theme - I wanted to use this to restore a friend’s site, but it didn’t have widget support at the time. Only oddity I’ve found, is when I go to a full post (pages are fine), and the sidebar doesn’t load completely. Doesn’t matter too much…I just wish I could figure out what’s causing it.
Thanks for your work on it.
May 15th 2007 - 4:14pmI love the look of the Skittlish theme. When I down loaded the widgit verson the The About category says “this would be where you’ write….” How do I get rid of that?
May 15th 2007 - 5:16pm@DevilzOwn: My apologies to you Sir. Seems I approved your comment but forgot to respond to it. Bad form on my part. As for your questions, please let me know if I’m hearing you wrong, but it sounds like you want only one color option and no fixed/fluid options to show up? You might be best of just removing the options from the sidebar. The fluid/fixed and color options can be changed in the included javascript. I’m going to have to look into the files for a definitive answer, but that’s what flows off the top of my head.
@Sam Adams: Thanks. Much appreciated.
@Lemm: It sounds like there could be some messy code in the sidebar.php. Maybe where the conditional tag is for showing sidebar items only on a single page view. Check to make sure it’s coded properly. I apologize for the vague response but I’m in the middle of work, but wanted to write something to let everyone know I heard their questions. I’ll take a look on the test site to see if I can reproduce your bug Lemm. Do you have a url for the site that’s having the problem? Thanks for the feedback.
@elona: If you want to put something else in that spot then just open up the sidebar.php in whatever text editor you use. You can do this from the “Presentation/Theme Editor” section of your Wordpress Administration Backend. Then delete three sentences between the paragraph tags ( < p > < /p >). In other words, delete the sentences you mentioned, and write whatever you would like in its place.
May 16th 2007 - 10:09amNo rush - but thank you - I’ll have a look at it in case I figure out what’s causing it…
May 16th 2007 - 10:47amYes, the url is here:
http://ewj-tgsma.nomoretangerines.com/
If you click on the post title ‘EWJ TGSMA restored’, it happens…so I think it must be something to do with blog posts.
Lemm- I’ll take a closer look tonight. A very quick scan of the post’s source code and I didn’t see any problems. Maybe double check to make sure all tags are closed and then take a look at the sidebar.php. Make sure everything is in order there, no open tags, which would be my fault if there are. Again, I’ll look into it further tonight.
I love that dude you put above the sidebar. Nice touch.
May 16th 2007 - 10:57am@Lemm: Sorry Lemm. This was due a mistake i did.
In sidebar.php (in the folder of the skittlish theme) you have to add in the line 83:
[div class="boxy tall"]
[?php if (function_exists('dynamic_sidebar')) { dynamic_sidebar(); } ?]
[/div]
CHANGE [ TO (due to “errors” on the comment form)
May 16th 2007 - 2:04pmSorry.
May 16th 2007 - 2:05pmYou have to change [ to
SORRY AGAIN. But i had problems with this coment form:
You have to replace the sidebar.php to the sidebar.php that i have compressed into this file:
http://magarto.com/blog/sidebar.php.zip
May 16th 2007 - 2:09pmThanks magarto - that worked with the widgets.
I think I’ve figured the rest out looking at it…I realised some things were pointing to uninstalled plugins…I feel really dumb - I forgot to upload the plugins included basically. Sorry… it’s been one of ‘those’ days!
Thanks for everything A. M Griffin. Brilliant stuff.
May 16th 2007 - 4:46pmThanks to you.
May 17th 2007 - 2:44amI have told Griffin that i will give him a final version of 1.05 with improvements of this theme, because i found some errors with UTW for non english, widgets more beautifuls….
I think i can give him in a couple of days
@Lemm: Glad you go that worked out. As for the plugins, they should be wrapped in conditionals so if you install them or not the theme would work regardless. This is most likely my fault and an oversight. I’ll check into it today. And I appreciate your kind words.
@Mario: Much thanks for the help here. It’s nice to know someone else is around who can field some of these questions. And, of course, everyone should give you a huge thanks for your work on the widgets. I know I’m supremely grateful.
May 17th 2007 - 7:52amI have sent you the 1.05 version with some improvements:
- Fixed widgets on single page
)
May 17th 2007 - 9:55am- Added favicon (your favicon.ico
- CSS style for each widget
- Edit link in posts
- changed UTW htmllist to commalist with icons due to compatbility for non english blogs (check any post on my blog to see a demo of this)
- Other improvements
I love this theme but too bad I could not get it to work on IE (color options not showing even after editing the header file) and the widgets is not displaying correctly as well (both dynamic and static sidebar contents are showing up).
I am so sad cos I LOVE this theme!!
Can you take a look at my setup for me and see what’s wrong? Drop me a mail if you have some time on your hands but no worries if you dun.
Did I mention that this theme ROCKS and thanks so much for porting this over for all to use.
KA
May 22nd 2007 - 7:01amKA: I appreciate your comments. It’s very nice of you. I’m a bit of a slacker here, so try downloading the Skittlish 1.05 zip file again. Use that new copy and see how it does. Mario fixed a few things and this new non-beta version might solve some of your problems. Please get back to us if you’re still experiencing any problems. Thanks for taking the time to let me know as well. I appreciate it.
May 22nd 2007 - 7:34amHi Griffin,
I just downloaded the latest and still have the same problem. Even in Firefox, I could not see the color options. The widget gives the same issue.
No worries if you guys are busy. I will check back often and try any new stuff you guys have on this and hopefully sometime in the future, we can get this to work for me.
KA
May 22nd 2007 - 10:14amHello Griffin,
I am trying to add Silk icon sets to this theme but some icons are not there. Otherwise I will publish the best one i could with limited color choices.
-Cheers
May 25th 2007 - 5:28amS
@KA Hi, before activating this theme, please deactive all your plugins in your 2.0, 2.1 or 2.2 wordpress theme (if it is elder, it might not work). Then activate this theme and see which plugin is having the error. If you have errors, i will check your site with firebug.
Mi mail es magarto at magarto.com I don’t have a lot of time, but i think i can help you if you can’t help yourself
@Griffin: I have validate this theme in HTML and CSS on W3C. This theme have errors i can fix. I will do it soon
Reming me it by e-mail
May 25th 2007 - 3:43pm@Griffin: Which plugin is the flag comments plugin??? I like this new plugin a lot
May 25th 2007 - 3:44pmI think i know
it may be ip to country Google i love you
May 25th 2007 - 3:45pmMario: Once again, thank you. That’s good standing advice you give as well. When in doubt, deactivate the plugins, often it’s a problem there. And the validation sounds great. Don’t feel like there’s a rush though. In your own time. I’ll send a reminder cause you ask ):.
And, as it usually is, Google is correct. I think. I’m using the Easy IP to Country plugin. Pretty much activate and go. Just need to make sure your comments.php uses the -< ?php comment_author_link() ? >- link as the plugin latches onto that for the flag icons. I had to change mine before the flags would appear… Hope you’re doing great Mario.
May 25th 2007 - 5:02pm@santm: Sounds great man. Let me know if you need any help, and please drop another note when you get it done. I’d love to take a look at your work. I like those silk icons… Thanks for giving the heads up.
May 25th 2007 - 5:06pmThanks Griffin again. I am going to use this plugin now
May 26th 2007 - 3:34amWe keep on contact
One thing: If anyone activate the Unobtrusive Mode in OpenID, he/she could not log in/out in wordpress. If anyone have this problem, rename the OpenID folder in plugin folder and activate and after deactive this option
May 26th 2007 - 3:40am@santm: Yout skittlish theme works properly. I think you might change the width of your images, because if anyone uses (it is the default options for compatibility with IE) fixed width instead of fluid width, he/she will not see the blog properly. I think the width might be around 350 pixels
May 26th 2007 - 5:20am@Griffin: My theme is ready ; please checkout.
@magarto : I modified functions.php and sidebar.php as “boxy_tall” did not worked for each widget.
@all: comments are most welcome.
May 28th 2007 - 6:17amhello experts,
Somehow icons for tags and categories are not showing up Internet explorer. But working fine with Firefox; I validated HTML and CSS and found no error.
May 31st 2007 - 10:29amIf anyone was having a problem when looking at a “Single” blog entry where the whole screen would turn grey (or #838383) when you were not logged in…I found a missing closing div in comments.php (line 144)
In the case where a visitor is not logged in, the div was not closed for the start div of . If your line is not 144 as it is in mine, it is in the if block “if (get_option(’comment_registration’) && !$user_ID )”
It works fine if you are logged in because there both the form tag and the div are closed.
In either case, awesome theme. Great work to both the people who ported it and especially the designer. Keep up the good work.
May 31st 2007 - 4:26pmYou Rock Lee. Nice catch there, and I appreciate you dropping a comment to let others know. It helps a ton when people take a moment to mention bugs. I haven’t visited the interior of Skittish in some time. Probably should clean it up a little, and you’ve inspired me to try.
@santm: I’ll have to checkout your site before I even try to see if I can offer any assistance. I just wanted to let you know I’ve read your comments, appreciate them, and will try to make my way over to your pad.
June 1st 2007 - 10:42amThanks Lee. I had it good
I have had to change nothing
June 7th 2007 - 11:39pmGot another one, when hitting on a tag using UTW you dont have any sidebar… any ideas?
same happened with page 404 but i added is_404() on sidebar.php
June 9th 2007 - 11:06pmPablo- Appreciate you pointing this out. Try re-downloading the Skittlish zip, whatever version you use, widget or no-widgets, and see if that works for you. Actually, you only need the new sidebar.php file. I only changed that particular file. No need to copy over everything.
I simply changed the conditionals in the sidebar. Added a -php else-. You should get a sidebar on every page now. If you made changes to the sidebar make sure to include those before copying over the file.
This is a quick fix, but it does not help me in some ways because I still do not know why the sidebar chooses to ignore a tag page. I would think the ‘is_page()’ would account for it but guess not, and as far as I know a ‘is_tag()’ or equivalent does not exist. If anyone knows why then by all means speak up…Again, I appreciate you taking the time to point this out Pablo.
June 10th 2007 - 5:48amI’ll try adding the else to my site this night, gotta try it offline first
should work, makes sense.
Thanks for the answer.
June 12th 2007 - 10:47amby the way, sorry to make another post i just thought it.
June 12th 2007 - 10:51amIs it possible to add addsense to the sidebar and make the adsense background be the same even if you change colors without editing inside the script code? because that goes against policies.
thank U
June 13th 2007 - 9:50amWell, the site that referred me here showed me red colored template, though the same structure.
June 21st 2007 - 1:38pmI kinda read your post in a hurry. Can we have different colored sidebars here?
Thanks for the theme!
Simple and nice. Thank you.
July 9th 2007 - 6:55amgreat theme. Thanks! one provblem I’m experiencing is the color options won’t work in either IE or FF. Perhaps this is an installation issue on my part? Thanks in advance for any help.
July 11th 2007 - 6:01amHi. I love the Skittlish theme and just wanted to congratulate you because I’ve added it to my new site listing the coolest Wordpress themes I can find all over the web. The list is at: http://www.bestwpthemes.com

August 14th 2007 - 6:26amThanks Dugo, for the nice sentiment and taking the time to comment. I appreciate it.
August 14th 2007 - 9:37amHi there, how do I go about forcing fluid mode? The colours are fine, I just want to remove the ability for people to have anything but fluid.
August 25th 2007 - 6:25amVery nice. Thank you.
September 15th 2007 - 6:25amI just downloaded the latest and still have the same problem. Even in Firefox, I could not see the color options. The widget gives the same issue.
September 17th 2007 - 3:17pmeglence- I’m so not on the pulse of this theme, which is lame, but the truth. So let’s see here, everything works as it should except for the color options? The demo site seems to be working fine in Firefox, and other assorted Mac browsers.
I guess the first step is to let me know if the color options are the only thing not working. Like do they show up, but you click them and nothing happens, or are they are not even showing up? Does the fluid/fixed button show up, and the “option” text? Let me know, and I’ll look at the theme files. It’s been awhile since I’ve actually opened them.
September 18th 2007 - 10:37pmVery nice job! great theme, Thank you.
September 21st 2007 - 1:20pmThanks! one provblem I’m experiencing is the color options won’t work in either IE or FF. Perhaps this is an installation issue on my part? Thanks in advance for any help.

March 26th 2008 - 10:39amThanks for a great Wordpress theme.
March 26th 2008 - 12:40pmAnd you are welcome Aden. Thanks for dropping in.
April 2nd 2008 - 8:44amI’ve used skittlish for some time now and just recently upgraded my Wordpress engine to 2.5. Only after that upgrade did I notice all the article pages are not rendering correctly. The entire field is dark gray, like the header, and the sidebar is shifted to the bottom of the screen. The problem does not appear on FireFox, but does appear on Safari and IE (all tested versions).
I really like the clean look of this theme, but I haven’t been able to correct this new problem. I’ve just upgraded to the newest version of the theme posted April 14th. 2008 and the problem still exists.
Has anyone else seen this and is there a known fix?
Thanks,
Tim
