The Truth About Obama

So I got another one of them Obama’s a Muslim emails. This is the second one. Perhaps you’ve received one as well? I noticed awhile back Chris Glass, a lovely chap whose site I read, was the unfortunate recipient of one. I was annoyed the first time, but quickly forgot about it in a wave of distraction. This second one kinda pissed me off. I’m not all that found of brazen liars.

This Obama is a Muslim lie is effective because it appeals to stupid people’s fear, bigotry and ignorance of Islam. Basically, the lie implies that Barack Obama is an Al-Qaeda operative who desperately wants to skullfuck your grandmother, boil your babies in butter and feed ‘em to his fundamentalist cohorts. The email doesn’t say as much of course, but that’s its intent, to create the impression Barack Obama is Osama Bin Laden’s bitch.

The truth is Senator Obama is not a Muslim, but let’s be clear here. There is nothing wrong with being a Muslim. Anyone who thinks so is an idiot. It is really that simple. If you think being a Muslim makes one evil then you’re a world class idiot. Sorry. The truth is there is nothing inherently wrong with Muslims. Just as there is nothing inherently wrong with Christians, or Jews, or Mormons. Take a nutcase, give him, or her, a holy book and you’ve got yourself some problems. The principle works the same irrespective of religion. The issue has never really been religion. It has always been people.

Anyway, the second email pissed me off enough that I threw up some links on my root domain. These links all point to places that have placed the email, and the related fabrications, into context, like, they’re fucking lies. My root domain is typically a graveyard of inactivity so I figured I might as well put it to some use.

Go ahead and give it a visit. If you’re feeling particularly kind, or you’re an Obama supporter, then link to it. I’m not looking for the links myself. I’m not tracking visits to the page, and there’s not an inroad to this journal on it, though if you were a clever and curious fellow you might be able to track it down. It would be nice though that if someone typed “Obama” and “truth” into Google they won’t end up at such an unkind site.

The important point here is don’t allow yourself to be a dupe and, more importantly, don’t let others be duped. If someone tells you these lies point out that they are, in fact, utter bullshit. This isn’t really a political point. It’s simply being a good citizen. People can’t make informed decisions if they’re trapped under a pile of bullcrap. So scoop it off, and be on your way.
